Upgrading to Version 4.0

What's new, at a glance 4.0

Good news: while the interface has gotten a new coat of paint, navigating the Data Suite works the same way as before. The tab menus, filters, sliders, Reset Report button, hovering over a chart: none of that changed. We just added a handful of tools to help you find what needs your attention faster, and make your reports look sharper when presenting your data.

  • Choose your own columns. On the Secondary Enrollment Data and Teacher Data tools, you can now filter the table to show or hide particular columns. Walking into a meeting about retention? Hide everything else and keep the view clean.
  • More context on your enrollment trends. Want to see whether a program's growth is keeping up with the rest of the district? You can now layer market share, retention, or districtwide enrollment right alongside your enrollment line. Simply select the "optional metrics" button when mousing over the Secondary Fine Arts Enrollment line graph.
  • See who's new, see who's current. The Teacher Data tool has been expanded to show teacher information for every teacher in each year of your data. There are now three ways to filter your teacher list, depending on the view you need.
    1. You can select "School Year" from the filter at the top of the page.
    2. You can check the "Display current teachers only" box to see a list of teachers for your current school year only.
    3. You can check the "Display new teachers only" to see a list of teachers who are in their first year with the district.
  • Course Level progression. The new Course Level Data tool shows how students move through the various course levels of your curriculum. There are two useful ways to read this data:
    1. Across: See how many students are enrolled in a Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 class in a given school year.
    2. Diagonally: Follow a particular cohort of students by tracking the table diagonally. For example, students who were freshmen in the 2022-2023 school year and were enrolled in a Level 1 course would have progressed to a Level 2 course in their sophomore year. By tracking diagonally, you can see where along the curricular path your attrition is happening.
  • All-Region Results, rebuilt. If you subscribe to the Achievement Package, your All-Region page now breaks results out by division and by instrument/voice, making it easier to read your result statistics like percentile rank and success rate. Results are now displayed in "score order" in tables and charts, making it easier to find a particular set of results. Lastly, your Year over Year Metrics graph now defaults to showing all years of data.
  • Download what you're looking at. There are two ways to export your data from the Suite:
    1. To download a page or the entire Data Suite report as a PDF, simply right click on any page (not the tab headers) and select "Download Page as a PDF".
    2. For the new filterable tables on the Secondary Enrollment Data and the Teacher Data tools, click on the three dots at the top right of the table, mouse over "Export chart" and choose your output method.

Annual Rollover Process

Each year, your district uploads a new course enrollment file, and Cadenza rolls your Data Suite forward to the new school year.

Uploading your data

  1. Export your course enrollment for the year as a CSV, using the Cadenza provided template. If your district wants to add additional data fields to the template file, please reach out and let us know as this may require an update to your Data Privacy Agreement.
  2. Upload the file to your district's secure upload link provided to you by Cadenza. The link is in your rollover email. Only your district and Cadenza can access it.
  3. You can upload at any time and as frequently as you want throughout the year. Please never send student files by email; always use the upload folder.

Rollover

  1. Your district uploads the new year's file.
  2. Your district sends a purchase order to billing@cadenzastrategy.com.
  3. Cadenza completes the rollover, and your Data Suite updates to the new school year.
  4. You'll receive an email titled "Your Cadenza Data Suite is Ready" with your sign-in link, the number of years of data now loaded, the upload folder link, and the template.

Concert, Sight Reading, Region Marching, and All-Region results (Achievement Package)

If you have the Achievement Package, Cadenza collects public Region Marching and Concert & Sight-Reading results as soon as each contest posts, and your All-Region results update throughout the year as they're released.

Your data, protected
  • Everything stays inside Google Cloud: Google Drive, BigQuery, and the report itself.
  • You sign in with your district's Google account, so only the people your district authorizes can ever see your Data Suite.
  • Your data belongs to your district. It's governed by your data sharing agreement with Cadenza.

Questions we hear often

Why doesn't my seat count match my student count?

A seat is one student in one program. A student taking both Band and Choir fills two seats but is still one unique student.

Do graduated students show up in the counts?

No. Graduated students are left out everywhere.

What happens if a teacher's name or ID changes?

We recognize the same teacher across name and ID changes, so their history stays together.

Does a comparison in the Data Suite mean one thing caused another?

No. Every comparison shows a pattern, not a cause. Students who stay in fine arts differ in plenty of other ways too, so take any comparison as a starting point for a question, not a conclusion.

How do I download what I'm looking at?

Click Share in the top right corner and choose Download report. You can also export just one table's data from its three-dot menu.
